Podcast: Treatment Options for Chronic Pelvic Pain in Women

Debra: From the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, I’m Debra James with Healthcare 411: Information for better health.

If you’re a woman and you’ve been experiencing pain in the area between your hips and below your belly button for at least three months, you may have a condition known as chronic pelvic pain. Your clinician will need to do a complete evaluation to identify the cause of your pain.

AHRQ’s Dr. Shilpa Amin explains:

Dr. Amin: Chronic pelvic pain can have many causes, including irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis or painful bladder syndrome. And the pain can keep you from being able to do regular activities. AHRQ has a brochure that explains several effective treatment options, including medicines, hormone therapy and surgery, as well as exercise or dietary changes.

Debra: For your free copy of Treating Chronic Pelvic Pain: A Review of the Evidence for Women, call 1-800-358-9295. Healthcare 411 is a production of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
